About Us

The West Lothian 50+ Network is a membership organisation of active over fifties run by members for members. We facilitate a wide range of activities with the aim of keeping active in mind and body whilst providing the opportunities to meet new people and combat loneliness and social isolation.

We are managed by a Board of volunteer Trustees elected from our membership. Most of our special interest groups are run by volunteer members, drawing on their extensive skills, experience and interests.

Our Members’ Hub and administrative centre is run by the charity manager and two part-time member support officers. We also employ a Volunteers and Groups  Co-ordinator to help us grow the Network.

Our main activities include:

Monthly Meetings

Get-togethers for members to socialise and be updated on new activities and Network business. Coffee/tea and biscuits are available. An external speaker is arranged on a range of topics of general interest. Minutes are produced and sent to all members.

Holidays

Two to three holidays are organized each year, usually, areas of cultural interest: castles, gardens, walks etc.

Theatre/Cinema Visits

Arranged by our Theatre and Cinema group where members have a say in what they would like to see. Our Weekenders group also regularly attend a variety of shows and music concerts.

Day Trips/Outings

Over the years Network members have visited a very wide range of attractions and attended many diverse events. We now offer a regular, monthly coach trip on the last weekend of each month.

Other Events

Various other events are held throughout the year from dinners and social evenings to musical evenings, craft fairs, coffee mornings and other fundraising events.

Group Activites

There are currently around 70 special interest groups including 7 walking groups, Pilates, French and Italian classes, Mah Jong, Canasta and Scrabble, Book and Blether, Ukulele for Beginners, Music and Craft groups.

Our activities stem from the 50+ Network’s three main aims:

To develop social, educational and recreational opportunities to help over 50’s remain fit and healthy in mind and body whilst combating social isolation.

To educate through links with 50+ groups.

To encourage the development of links between organisations in West Lothian that can further these aims.
